Evaluate your Shape and Dress for It!

My first post is going to deal with accessing your body type.  The best way to determine what types of styles work for you is to first find out what shape you have.  There are 4 different body types:
1. Hourglass:  This body type is characterized by a defined waist and the bust/hip measurements are similar.
Celebrity body type examples: Kim Kardashian, Sophia Vergara, and Salma Hayek
2. Inverted Triangle or Apple Shape: Your body type has broader shoulders than your waist and hips.
Celebs who have this shape are: Audrina Patridge and Renee Zellweger
3. Triangle or Pear Shape:  Your upper body is smaller than your hips.
Celeb bodies: Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Jennifer Love Hewitt
4. Straight:  Your body is fairly straight with few curves.
Celebrity examples: Cameron Diaz and Nicole Kidman

The tip for dressing for your body type is to accent areas and find ways to cover problem ones.  For example, for someone with an hourglass figure should wear belted outfits to accentuate the waist.  A triangle shape body type would want to wear bootcut jeans or flares to balance out their shoulders.  Straight shapes can create curves with ruffles or pleats to create more of a hour glass silhoutte.  Inverted triangle shapes can use A-line skirts or dresses to hide problem areas in the hips.

After you figure out what body type you have, the trips to the dressing room can become a lot easier and more enjoyable when you can see what will work for your body.  There is nothing more satisfying than a great outfit!

Let me introduce myself....

I have always wanted to have my own fashion blog.  Nothing complicated, just something light hearted and fun so everyday people can find inspiration in the vast world of fashion!  With this blog, I aim to provide style tips, trends, reviews on stores or products, and clothing suggestions that everyone can enjoy.
Some background info about me:  my name is Shea and I have always had a passion for anything fashion related!  My Grandmother had a boutique and I practically grew up in her store watching her pick out clothing, creating visual displays and aiding her customers in finding the perfect outfit.  She inspired me to achieve my Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Merchandising and to one day have a store of my own.
I live in Pittsburgh, PA and work in women's retail.  Pittsburgh isn't quite NYC but the fashion wave is getting bigger!  The amount of retail stores, boutiques and fashion events have increased in the last 5 years since I've lived here and I'm excited get more involved through this blog!  (we even had Tim Gunn here last week to do a fashion show!)
I'm planning on having posts that feature outfits, recreating celebrity looks for less, and looking great on a budget.  I would love feedback or suggestions so feel free to contact me anytime if you know of something of interest!  I am excited to begin this blog journey and can't wait to see where it may lead!
